Making content edits

  • Updated

This article content is for personalizations on your existing website. Looking to build 1:1 Mutiny-hosted microsites for your target accounts? Visit our Campaigns help docs here.

After you've selected an element, you can edit the HTML of that element in the "Content" box on the right side of the Mutiny editor.

Content box

The content box in the Mutiny editor functions as a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor backed by HTML. This means you can either use the visual formatting buttons at the top—like bold, italic, links, and lists—or write custom HTML directly into the editor.

If your code starts to look messy or hard to follow, click the three-dot menu at the top right of the content box and select "Format HTML" to automatically clean up and structure your code for easier editing.

This editor gives you flexibility for both quick formatting and advanced customization, depending on your comfort level with HTML.

Potential error messages

There are a couple of reasons why content changes may be disabled:

Content Edits Disabled

You may run into a situation where you're unable to edit a specific piece of content in Mutiny. This usually happens when the element you're trying to edit has already been modified through a previous personalization to one of its child elements.

Here’s what’s happening behind the scenes: when Mutiny personalizes an element, we create a copy of it, apply your changes to the copy, and hide the original. If you’ve already made a change to a nested (child) element inside the section you’re now trying to edit, Mutiny will block additional changes to avoid conflicts between edits.

How to resolve it:
To proceed with editing your selected element, first revert any personalizations that were made to its child elements by navigating to the changelog. Once those are removed, you’ll be able to personalize the parent element as expected.

Content Size Limit

Mutiny enforces a 50MB limit on the size of content changes made within the content editor. If the HTML in your selected element exceeds this limit, you won’t be able to make further edits.

This limit is in place to ensure optimal performance and prevent large edits from slowing down your site or impacting the visitor experience. To stay within this limit, we recommend making your changes as targeted and specific as possible—editing only the elements that truly need personalization rather than large blocks of code.
