How Credits Work in Mutiny

Last updated: June 23, 2026

Mutiny runs on credits. Credits are how you pay for the work the Mutiny agent does for you, actions like creating assets, doing research, running routines, and more. It's a usage-based system, so you only pay for what you actually use.

The most important thing to know: credits are fractional. Many actions cost less than one credit, and only bigger pieces of work cost more. A quick tweak to a headline isn't the same as building a full landing page, so it doesn't cost the same. This keeps Mutiny precise and efficient, and you get more done per credit.

The two kinds of actions

Every message you send to the agent falls into one of two buckets:

1. Conversations and planning — asking a question, thinking through an idea, or deciding what to do next. Nothing is being built, so these cost little to nothing. If the agent asks you a clarifying question or if something goes wrong on our end, you're never charged.

2. Building — anything where the agent actually creates or changes something for you: writing copy, adding a section, designing a page, running a routine. These are priced on the work involved.

For building actions, the cost reflects two things:

  • What goes in — how much context the agent has to take in (pulling from an integration, a document you uploaded, or a long chat).

  • What comes out — how much the agent generates (a one-line edit vs. a full multi-section page).

So a small change costs a fraction of a credit, and a large, from-scratch generation costs more.

Example prompts and what they cost

Important to note that these are approximate; actual costs depend on the complexity of each request, but they give you a feel for the range:

We use Claude Opus 4.8 as the default mode (called “Max”), and recommend using it for net new asset generation. We use Sonnet as our “Balanced” model, which costs approximately 50% less.

What the agent does

Create a larger, multi-part interactive asset with lots of context

“Review my past 5 calls and build a 5 tab deal room for this opportunity”

~3

Perform a data-heavy routine across multiple integrations

“Pull the latest updates from my CRM and my last 10 transcripts and draft an account update”

~5

Perform a data-heavy routine across multiple integrations and create multiples assets

“Look at all my calls for today, research the account, generate a prep doc, pitch deck and email”

~8 credits per account

Tips to make your credits go further

  • Use a lighter model for small edits. Mutiny defaults to its most capable model for design quality, but you can switch to a faster or balanced model for quick tweaks or copy updates

    • Max - our most capable model, great for designing beautiful assets.

    • Balanced - reduced credit costs, ~60% of “Max”. Great for copy edits and strategic support.

  • Plan before you build. Asking questions and talking through an approach is cheap; it's the building that uses credits.

  • Lean on routines. Once a routine is set up, it does repetitive work for you automatically, so you're not re-prompting the same thing by hand. Learn more about routines here: 📄 Routines Overview

Credits across your team

Credits live in a shared pool for your whole workspace. Anyone you invite can draw from it, and inviting teammates is free. A few things that help you stay in control:

  • Rollover: unused credits carry into the next month, and your rolled-over credits are used first.

  • Per-user limits: admins can set a monthly cap for any individual, so no one person uses a disproportionate share.

  • No surprises: admins are notified with a banner as you approach your monthly pool, or users can request more credits, so you'll never be cut off without warning.

What doesn't cost credits?

  • Clarifying questions the agent asks you

  • Failed generations or errors on our end
