Experiences can be previewed directly on your website, and links are generated and shared in the same manner regardless of launch status. This article will walk you through how to share links to your experiences.
How to access the preview link
There are two places where you can access a preview link.
- From the experience detail page, you can click on the "Preview" button in the chart to preview a specific variant.
- In the the Editor, click "Preview" in the upper right corner.
Previewing an experience
You can send a preview link to anyone, regardless of whether they have a Mutiny account or not. When viewing a preview link, there will be a banner notifying the user that they are viewing a preview.
How do preview link's affect experience analytics?
Anytime a user visits a preview link, Mutiny adds the user's associated IP address to that account's 'block-list' for analytics. This ensures users who are visiting preview links are not affecting experience analytics in your team's account moving forward.
What happens when the preview link expires?
Preview links expire after 60 days, and visitors will be presented with a modal telling them the link has expired:
Fallback mode
Previewing an experience requires the Mutiny client is installed on the page. If the client is not on the page when a user first clicks preview, we are able to ‘fallback’ to using a proxy to render the preview instead. You may encounter some issues with using the proxy as a preview method, so we recommend installing the client on any page you're previewing.
Viewing your default site
There may be times when you want to see your site without any experiences being shown. To view your default page, add on the query parameter of ?mutiny=false
to the end of your URL.
